Qualifications

Trinity Christian Academy is looking for a dedicated, caring and knowledgeable full-time Upper School Social and Emotional Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year. The mission of a TCA school counselor is to foster the emotional, social, academic and spiritual well-being of each student. In this role you will work closely with students and faculty as we work towards “educating and developing the whole person for the glory of God” (Colossians 2:8).

General Responsibilities

  • Advise and counsel high school students to fully develop each student's academic, personal and social abilities
  • Provide consultation to school administrators and parents regarding personal social and emotional needs of students
  • Refer and coordinate with behavioral health specialists
  • Plan and implement a comprehensive counseling program for high school students
  • Provide support for new and returning students
  • Provide preventive, remedial and crisis counseling as needed
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents and school administrators to discuss topics which may be sensitive
  • Help students understand and overcome social and/or behavioral problems
  • Work with students to develop skills of time management, organization and overall study habits
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators and parents for students' success
  • Demonstrate the fruits of the spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) in daily work, and interactions with colleagues and others

Required Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Counseling
  • Active LPC license required
  • 3-5 years' experience counseling high school students
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with students
  • Have a willing heart for service (Ephesians 6:7)
  • Agree with and support TCA’s Doctrinal, Biblical and Mission statements and Christian values

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be compassionate and patient
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents, answering questions in a professional and friendly manner
  • Creates an atmosphere in which confidence, understanding, and respect result in building relationships
  • Normal physical demands of working in school (including, but not limited to, standing, reaching, stooping, squatting down, kneeling, and occasional lifting)
  • Must be able to give, receive and analyze information, prepare written materials and input information into a computer
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents, answering questions in a professional and friendly manner
  • Strong communication skills required
