Qualifications

Trinity Christian Academy is looking for an Instructional Assistant for the 6th grade teaching team and students for the 2024-2025 school year. The goal of the Middle School is to create a “meaningful middle” which prepares students to be self-advocates who know what it takes to find success in every facet of their school experience—academics, extracurricular activities and their relationships with peers and adults. You will impact the lives of teachers and students as you support both in the daily life of Middle School.

General Responsibilities

  • Supporting Teachers with Implementation of Curriculum and Classroom Instruction
    • Attending August In-Service to help with preparations for the start of school
    • Manage daily and weekly needs of teachers in terms of making copies, creating review games, and assisting as needed with technology, grade recording, etc.
    • Organize and implement team and/or teacher plans for special events such as Renaissance Day, Math to the Future, Flight Day, etc.
  • Team Administrative Support
    • Manage the tracking, recording, and/or distribution of special schedules, student discipline referrals, team meeting notes, etc.
    • Implement team ideas for bulletin boards or display of student work in halls and/or classrooms
    • Manage lost and found items, playground equipment, and 6th grade school supplies
  • Assist with Supervision and Technology Duties
    • Cover supervision duties (e.g., recess, lunch, carpool, PASTime, etc.) as a part of the team rotation
    • Cover duties when a classroom teacher has an emergency or a special event
    • Share coverage of "Tech Stop" to help provide technical support of students' mobile devices (iPads)
  • Direct Instruction and Supervision of Students
    • Able to address student misbehavior firmly, kindly, and directly and communicate with the team abut patterns of concern
    • May occasionally substitute for classroom teacher when a teacher is out
    • May occasionally work  with small groups of students to re-teach material, administer assessments, or assist student with work after an extended absence
    • May occasionally supervise a teacher's class during PASTime (i.e., study hall) or read/write/review time so the teacher can work with an individual child or group of children
    • Attend and help supervise class field trips, Community of Faith Gatherings, House activities, and special events
  • Planning of and Participation in Year-End Class Trip
    • Organize and implement team plans for year-end trip to Camp of the Hills (typically in May)
    • Coordinate with Upper School faculty member(s) on preparation of the Upper School Student Counselors
    • Assist with planning the Upper School Student Counselor Retreat (typically mid-March)

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Education preferred
  • Strong preference for classroom teaching experience and/or experience in working with Middle School students
  • Skilled in working in a collaborative team-based environment
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed, detailed-minded and a problem solver
  • Exhibit a "team player" attitude by helping classroom teachers in any way possible with a joyful spirit
  • Demonstrate initiative by asking teachers how you can be of assistance to them, even in "slow times"
  • Willing and able to share in the inevitable problems by being solution-orientated rather than complaint focused
  • Love kids and works out of unconditional love and a "What is best for kids?" mindset
  • Have a willing heart for service (Ephesians 6:7)
  • Agree with and support TCA’s Doctrinal, Biblical and Mission statements and Christian values

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements

  • Normal physical demands of teaching (including, but not limited to, standing, reaching, stooping, squatting down, kneeling, and occasional lifting)
  • Must be able to give, receive and analyze information, prepare written materials and input information into a computer
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents, answering questions in a professional and friendly manner
  • Strong communication skills required
