We are looking for a dedicated coach and Christ follower to be our Varsity Cheerleading Head Coach for the 2024-2025 school year. The head Varsity Cheer coach must have the ability to jump, stunt, dance and cheer. TCA’s Athletic Department utilizes sports and competition to teach transformational, life-giving biblical truths to each student-athlete. As a coach at TCA you will not only help student athletes improve their athletic ability, you will remind them of the importance of academics, instill a Christian work ethic (Col. 3:23) and help strengthen their faith in Christ.
Qualifications
- A strong commitment to the positive development of the cheer program at TCA
- Ability to instill teamwork and community within a group of girls pointing them to Christ
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with high school girls in cheerleading
- Knowledge, skill and ability sufficient to maintain high standards of safety in all aspects of coaching at practices as well as competitions (jumps, cheers, stunts, tumbling, etc.)
- Ability to build a good rapport with, and mentor students
- USA Cheer Cheerleading certified
General Responsibilities
- Responsible to oversee TCA Cheer Program (8th grade, JV and Varsity)
- Prepare schedule for, attend and coach cheerleaders at all Varsity cheer practices during football and basketball season (3-4 per week)
- Prepare schedule for, attend and supervise cheerleaders at all Varsity football and basketball games (home and close away)
- Work with Varsity officers to prepare pep rallies
- Responsible to oversee TAPPS Cheer Competition with aid from the competition coach
- Works with Athletic Department in arranging transportation to all cheerleader events, away games, competition, summer camp and summer work week
- Oversee practice schedule for 8th and JV squads
- Choreograph and teach pep rally routines working with officers
- Use Cheersounds.com to mix music
- Attend some 8th and JV football and basketball games
- Organize and oversee summer cheer camp for 8th, JV and Varsity squads (June)
- Organize and oversee summer work week for 8th, JV and Varsity squads (August)
- Organize cheerleader awards program
- Teach jumps, stunts, cheer techniques and dance routines
- Responsible for fittings and ordering for all cheer uniforms for 8th, JV and Varsity
- Responsible for cheer tryouts and parent meetings for 8th, JV and Varsity
- Organize, approve and purchase supplies for all school decorations with help from assistants
- Arranges and coordinates the parent meeting, cheer clinic and tryouts for 8th, JV and Varsity
- Responsible for Little Trojan Camps in the summer, with help from the assistants
- Oversee all cheer communication from 8th, JV and Varsity
- Assist with all football programs
- Communicate with parents and administration
- Work with assistants to plan the end of year banquet
- Attend head coach meeting with the Athletic department
- Agree with and support TCA’s Doctrinal, Biblical and Mission statements and Christian values
Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements
- Regularly works inside but some outdoor time required for games and practices
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and pull items
- Ability to demonstrate jumping, stunting, dancing and cheering
- Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs. (cheer mats)
- Ability to assist with stunting and lifting cheerleaders
- Early mornings and late nights required
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain
- Maintaining composure in dealing with colleagues, parents and students
- CPR certification required
