Qualifications

We are looking for a Middle School Academic Resource Center (ARC) Assistant to work with our 5th/6th grade ARC Teacher to help teach study skills and executive functioning skills to students with diagnosed learning differences in the context of various subjects in the 5th/6th grade levels; the ARC Assistant also manages the administration of all assessments in the Academic Resource Center.

General Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration of tests and quizzes in the Academic Resource Center and assist students with the management of their academic responsibilities
  • Assist the 5th/6th grade ARC Teacher in the following ways:
    • Monitor and assist students in the ARC with their organization and completion of homework
    • Explain directions whenever necessary for completion of assignments
    • Equip students with strategies and skills to set goals, become self-directed and be responsible for their learning
    • Develop positive, encouraging, and supportive relationships with students while still holding them accountable to MS standards for academics and behavior
    • Assist with the operation and troubleshooting of student iPads and technology used in the Academic Resource Center
    • Assist the 5th/6th grade ARC Teacher as needed
    • Demonstrate the fruits of the spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) in daily work, and interactions with students and colleagues

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Academic Resource Center documents and files for ARC students
  • Assist in the organization and scheduling for quizzes, tests, standardized testing, etc.
  • Transfer testing reports to electronic files
  • Monitoring grades each week for each ARC student
  • Updating ARC documents as needed
  • Overseeing the collection of assessments from and return of assessments to teachers and managing the tracking of extended time for ARC students
  • Ordering supplies as needed
  • Assist students with creating study plans as needed

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree required, preferably in Education or Special Education
  • Teaching experience in Middle School is preferred but not required
  • Must be able to demonstrate patience, compassion, desire, stamina, and expertise to support students and their families daily
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to different schedules, subjects, circumstances, personalities, and student temperaments
  • Have a willing heart for service (Ephesians 6:7)
  • Agree with and support TCA's Doctrinal, Biblical and Mission statements and Christian values

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements

  • Normal physical demands of teaching (including, but not limited to, standing, reaching, stooping, squatting down, kneeling, and occasional lifting)
  • Must be able to give, receive and analyze information, prepare written materials and input information into a computer
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents, answering questions in a professional and friendly manner
  • Strong communication skills required
