Responsibilities and Qualifications

We are looking for someone to assist in our Learning Lab. The mission of the Upper School Learning Lab is to provide support for students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD in order to maximize their potential for success within the TCA curriculum. This is for the 2021-2022 school year. 

General Responsibilities

  • Teaching study skills and executive functioning skills to students with diagnosed learning differences in the context of various subjects in the 9th-12th grade levels
  • Demonstrating the desire, stamina and expertise to support struggling students and their families daily
  • Demonstrating flexibility to adapt to changing needs throughout the day as well as to different personalities, subjects, schedules, etc.
  • Assist the Upper School Learning Lab Coordinator in the following ways:
    • Monitor and assist students while in the Learning Lab with homework, quizzes, in-class essays and test;
    • Explain directions whenever necessary for completion of assignments;
    • Equip students with strategies and skills to get goals, become self-directed and be responsible for their learning process;
    • Be able to develop rapport with students;
    • Be able to pray, encourage, discuss, motivate and assist students with their academic work;
    • Teach study and organizational skill to students for the to use in the academic classroom;
    • Encourage students’ confidence in their ability to succeed and help improve their self-image;
    • Assist with the operation of the computer and equipment in the Learning Lab
    • Assist Learning Lab Coordinator as needed

Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Maintaining Learning Lab documents and files for Learning Lab students
  • Assist in organizing and scheduling for PSAT and AP exams
  • Transfer testing reports to electronic files
  • Monitoring grades each week for each Learning Lab student
  • Updating Learning Lab documents
  • Overseeing test sign in sheets for students extended time
  • Ordering supplies
  • Assist students with creating study plans as needed

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications 

  • BA or BS in Education or in Special Education is preferred but not required
  • Math background in Upper School is preferred but not required
  • Teaching experience in Upper School is preferred but not required
  • Patience and compassion needed

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements

  • Normal physical demands of teaching
