Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist

Job Purpose: Performs a variety of patient care activities to assist the laboratory and providers.

  Essential Functions: (Examples of Duties)

1. Review advance beneficiary notice and help providers find the correct dx codes for coverage.
2. Enter transfer orders into the database from external providers.
3. Assist with internal laboratory reports.
4. Send/receive faxes and ensure that outgoing faxes have successfully been completed.
5. Performs testing and patient collecting duties per protocols/procedures including pre and post-analytic phases.
6. Follow the laboratory’s procedure for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
7. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
8. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Administrative Laboratory Director, Laboratory Supervisor, or LIS Coordinator
9. Review patient cases and assist in completing the requests.
10. Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
11. Performs and reports in-house lab testing.
12. Ability to effectively and efficiently navigate and document in EHR.
13. Other duties as assigned.
