Job Purpose: Performs specialized examination of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease. Mammography technologists may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.

Essential Functions: (Examples of Duties)

1. Complete patient education regarding the exam.

2. Promote privacy and monitor patients' well-being during exams; recognize patient discomfort or medical problems and take appropriate actions.

3. Perform a diagnostic or screening mammogram as ordered

4. Produce high-quality images, as well as CAD images, for the Radiologist to evaluate

5. Provide proper radiation protection for patients and staff.

6. Evaluate Mammogram Images for technical quality and label them appropriately.

7. Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions as needed.

8. Complete appropriate documentation related to the study

9. Perform quality control functions related to mammography 

10. Assist in the compilation and maintenance of statistical data and mammography patient tracking.

11. Perform Bone Density exams as needed.

12. Follow infection control and safety guidelines.

13.vAssist in directing plain film patients as necessary

14. Performs related work as required.  

Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications: (Describe minimum qualifications, preferred or required)

  

Education:  Completion of a two-year approved School of Radiologic Technology 

 

Experience: One year of full-time experience as a Mammography Technologist 

 

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.  Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure technique. Uses professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.   

 

Licenses/Certifications: Valid ARRT Registration and Tennessee Medical X-ray Operator License. Mammo Certification is preferred. CPR certification. 

 

Working Conditions: Exposure to potential radiation and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

 

Physical Demands:  Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.  Requires standing and walking for extensive periods.  May be required to help lift/transfer patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.  Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
