Job Summary:

The Sixth floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of the museum, including facilities management, security, parking, and safety protocols. This role ensures the museum operates efficiently, maintains high standards of visitor experience, and protects the institution’s assets, staff, and visitors. The Operations Manager collaborates with other departments to support the museum’s mission and goals while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight:

  • Manage daily museum operations, including opening and closing procedures, visitor services, and facility maintenance.
  • Coordinate with departments (e.g., curatorial, education, and events) to ensure seamless operations during exhibitions, programs, and special events.
  • Oversee vendor contracts and service agreements for cleaning, maintenance, and other operational services.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to improve efficiency and visitor satisfaction.
  • Monitor and manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

Security Management:

  • Oversee security operations, including the supervision of security staff and coordination with external security contractors, if applicable.
  • Ensure the safety of museum collections, exhibits, staff, and visitors through robust security protocols.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for theft, vandalism, or other security threats.
  • Conduct regular security audits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Train staff in security procedures and coordinate with local law enforcement as needed.

Parking and Transportation:

  • Manage parking facilities, including visitor and staff parking areas, ensuring accessibility and efficiency.
  • Oversee parking operations, including ticketing systems, signage, and maintenance of parking areas.
  • Coordinate shuttle services or transportation programs, if applicable, to enhance visitor access.
  • Address parking-related complaints and ensure compliance with accessibility regulations (e.g., ADA requirements).

Safety and Risk Management:

  • Develop and enforce safety policies to protect visitors, staff, and museum assets.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities, including fire systems, emergency exits, and accessibility features.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other relevant safety regulations.
  • Lead safety training programs for staff, including fire drills, first aid, and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Manage incident reporting and investigate accidents or safety concerns, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Staff Supervision and Training:

  • Supervise and manage operations, security, and facilities staff, including hiring, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Provide training and professional development to ensure staff are equipped to handle operational and safety responsibilities.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to support team morale and productivity.

Visitor Experience and Facilities Management:

  • Ensure the museum’s facilities are clean, well-maintained, and welcoming to visitors.
  • Oversee maintenance of HVAC, lighting, and other building systems to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Address visitor feedback related to operations, parking, or safety, and implement improvements as needed.
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to maintain high standards of customer service.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets for operations, security, parking, and safety initiatives.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
  • Maintain inventory of operational supplies and equipment, ensuring timely procurement.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency preparedness plans, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, and security threats.
  • Coordinate with local emergency services to ensure effective response protocols.
  • Conduct regular drills and update plans based on evolving risks or regulations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, museum studies, facilities management, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably in a museum, cultural institution, or similar public-facing environment.
Experience in security, safety, or facilities management is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, security systems, and emergency response protocols.
  • Budget management and financial acumen.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, vendors, and visitors.
  • Proficiency in facilities management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications: Certifications in safety (e.g., OSHA), security management, or first aid/CPR are a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, stand, and occasionally lift moderate weights (e.g., up to 25 lbs.) during inspections or emergency response activities.

Work Environment/Conditions:

The role involves working in both office and museum environments, with occasional outdoor duties (e.g., parking lot oversight) and may require working weekends, evenings, or holidays to accommodate museum events or emergencies. Must have the ability to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours within a reasonable amount of time.
