POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the supervision of the Regional Yard Manager and Terminal Manager, and in the absence of the Terminal Manager, is entrusted with responsibility for day-to-day management of terminal yard operations. Trains, evaluates, and directly supervises the yard drivers and other employees. Enforces safety and other applicable work rules. Coordinates the various yard services to facilitate trailer loading and dispatch departure schedules. Responsible for the safe and efficient utilization of all yard equipment.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Recruit, train, schedule, evaluate, and direct the activities of Yard employees 

  • Assure that all required corporate and/or customer reports are timely and accurately completed and submitted 

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all equipment assigned to the Yard 

  • Enforce rules of conduct, safety and attendance for Yard employees and administer discipline with the advice and concurrence of the Terminal Manager and the Human Recourses Department 

  • Adhere to and enforce all ethical standards by which the Company operates. 

  • Maintain flexibility to work various hours and shifts depending upon the operational needs of the terminal 

  • Such other functions as may be assigned 

  • Ensures equipment is repaired and in communication with repair venders 

  • Ensure proper maintenance of yard trucks  

  • Conduct yard/safety audits daily  

  • Ensure all yard rules are being adhere to 

  • Evaluating employee performance and documenting any employee counseling 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Must have 2 or more years of trucking or related transportation logistics management experience.  

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Experience in the management of dedicated fleet operations. 

  • Knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations. 

  •  Supervisory experience dealing with employees possessing varied skill sets 

  • Customer service experience preferably dealing with the time sensitive delivery of services 

  • Experience using computerized accounting, billing, inventory, HR, and regulatory compliance software 

  •  Excellent organization skills, with the ability to multitask 

  •  Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities 

  •  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 

  •  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  •  Commitment to company values 

  • Ability to operate trucks and spot trailers in confined locations 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT 

Extensive walking and standing in outdoor environment during varied weather conditions. Must have ability to climb onto and off of yard equipment including tractors and trailers. Must have ability to work nights and weekends where required.
