GI Alliance is seeking an experienced CMA/CNA/PCT/LPN

Scope:  Under direct supervision of the Office Manager and/or Administrator, the Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant bears the responsibility of overseeing patient flow in the clinic, entering medical information into the patients’ EHR chart, and rooming patients.  Supports and adheres to the Illinois Gastroenterology Group Compliance program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Obtains accurate current weight, vital signs, allergies and medications with each office visit.
  • Enters information accurately in EMR.
  • Calls patient in advance of appointments to remind and obtain medications and allergies.
  • Obtains and handles specimens and enters orders through requisitions and computer.
  • Prepares exam rooms for patient use.
  • Obtains additional medical information from hospitals, laboratories, radiology centers and physician offices.
  • Assists physicians as needed.
  • Assists with check-in as needed.
  • Administers vaccinations and B12 injections. Administers TB skin tests.
  • Restocks supplies and submits supply orders to nurse manager in a timely manner.
  • Organizes and monitors expiration dates of sample medications.
  • Places patient in appropriate exam room for each physician at scheduled time.
  • Places labs in appropriate area to be picked up.
  • Follows all NWG policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
  • Takes direction from NWG providers and RNs.
  • Complete other duties as directed by the Administrator, Managers and/or physicians

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Certified Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Tech or equivalent experience required.  Minimum 3 – 5 years’ medical assistant/certified nursing assistant experience. 

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  This position requires range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, and eye-hand coordination.  May requires sitting for extensive periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs., require vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing correctable to normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.

 

Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.

 

Requirements for Level I Status:

 

  • Entry level (1-4 years experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.
  • Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with need for additional supervision.

 

Performance Requirements:

  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
